Reiki is a form of energy healing. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”.
The Reiki practitioner acts in the same way a metal rod conducts electricity from the source to its destination. The Reiki practitioner is able to direct the healing energy to where it is needed most.
The rituals involved in becoming a Reiki practitioner are part of a process called initiation, during which a Reiki master “opens” energy channels in the student's body. The sacred tradition is passed from Master to student through teachings, a defined form of practice, and attunement.
I was initiated in the Second Degree of Usui Shiki Ryoho. Usui Reiki was founded in Japan a little over 100 years ago by Mikao Usui, whose personal search to understand healing led him to Reiki. He developed his practice in Japan and in 1937 Reiki was introduced to Hawaii, by Hawayo Takata.
Oral Tradition - The form and essence of this system is passed on only through a person to person relationship with a Reiki Master involving verbal and non-verbal communication and energetic transmissions.
Spiritual Lineage - Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, and Hawayo Takata are recognized as the spiritual lineage of this system. The living lineage bearer embodies the essence of this system.
Initiation – This secret and sacred ritual is passed down to the Masters of the system. The Masters, in turn, use this ritual to attune each student to the energy of Reiki. This brings life to the form of the practice that accompanies the initiations into the First and Second Degree.
Symbols – The three symbols taught in the Second Degree classes are accompanied by a specific form of practice. These symbols act as energetic keys that access the non-physical world.
Treatment – Treatments by Second Degree Reiki Practitioners can be practiced at a distance, through use of sacred symbols. Distance Reiki can be sent long distances to a person, animal, plant, or situation. Distance Reiki has no time or space limitations and can be sent to the past, present, or future.
